NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL (NPS)
The Non-Public School (NPS) in Davis is state certified, providing a structured and creative special education learning environment for children who have been diagnosed as severely emotionally disturbed and whose behavioral difficulties have interfered with their ability to learn in community schools. The Non-Public School Program operates in Davis and is open to the children in the Residential Treatment Program and a limited number of community children. Generally, children in the Residential Treatment Program attend the Non-Public School. The goal of the program is to improve academic achievement and social functioning so that the child can return to a public school.
Each child’s placement is pursuant to an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) developed with school district and referring county representatives. The school comprises 10 classrooms of 8-10 students and is lead by a credentialed teacher and classroom aides, providing a ratio of 1:3-1:4. Psychiatrists, psychotherapists, speech and art therapists, and other collateral professionals provide therapeutic services to children enrolled in the combined programs. The school is funded primarily through the State of California Department of Education, under master contracts with local school districts.

INTENSIVE DAY TREATMENT
The Intensive Day Treatment Program is a service provided to all RTP residents six days per week. The purpose of Intensive Day Treatment Program is to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to assist each child to develop the social and behavioral skills that will allow him to integrate successfully in school, home and other social settings. Client goals for the program include a decrease in classroom disruption and property destruction, decrease in aggressiveness and sexualized behavior towards peers and authority figures, decrease in tantrums, impulsive behaviors and oppositional defiant behaviors. In addition interventions are designed to address attachment issues, increase empathy and improve relationships with severely traumatized youth. For those clients suffering from trauma, interventions will focus upon identifying trigger situations and behaviors, reducing reactive trauma cycles and improve the client's ability to relate in a responsive manner.
